Lachin corridor blocked: Karabakh cut off from Armenia for a second day
The road is blocked by Azerbaijanis presenting themselves as eco-activists
The only road linking Nagorno-Karabakh with Armenia has been blocked for a second day. Since 12 December the route near Shushi has been closed by Azerbaijani citizens who describe themselves as environmental activists and demand access to mines in Karabakh.
Hundreds of vehicles are stranded in the area of responsibility of the Russian peacekeepers, among them people returning home and cargo with food.
Yerevan called it a humanitarian blockade organised by the Azerbaijani authorities and demanded that the Russian peacekeeping contingent ensure traffic through the corridor in line with the statement of 10 November 2020.
The Karabakh authorities say food is running out in shops because supplies have stopped, and report interruptions in the gas supply from Armenia.
