The Paris authorities have extended a partial curfew in parts of the city until Monday. Marseille and Lyon have banned all protests this weekend.

The Louvre, the Musée d'Orsay and the Picasso Museum will be closed on Saturday, with new demonstrations expected.

France is still reeling from last weekend's unrest, when mass protests against the high cost of living and school conditions turned into riots and looting. Shops and historic buildings were damaged.

According to President Emmanuel Macron, where protests are not banned outright, only authorised union marches will be allowed on Saturday.
