European Political Community summit opens in Yerevan
Pashinyan called the meeting historic for Armenia
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has opened the eighth summit of the European Political Community in Yerevan. Leaders of more than 40 European states and heads of EU institutions have gathered in the Armenian capital.
"It is a big honour for us to host this summit. The EPC format played a crucial role in establishing peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan," Pashinyan said.
The prime minister recalled that at the first EPC summit in Prague in 2022, on the initiative of French President Emmanuel Macron and European Council President Charles Michel, a quadrilateral meeting with the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan gave impetus to the negotiations.
The summit is one of the largest international events in the history of independent Armenia. The next day Yerevan will host the first bilateral Armenia-EU summit.
