Armenia-Azerbaijan peace declaration signed at the White House
Pashinyan and Aliyev initialled the peace treaty, Trump signed as witness
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev have signed a joint declaration at the White House. US President Donald Trump signed the document as a witness.
The two countries' foreign ministers initialled the text of the Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations. The sides also jointly asked the OSCE to dissolve the Minsk Group.
A key economic element of the agreements is a transit route through Armenia's Syunik Province linking Azerbaijan with Nakhchivan. The project has been named the Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP). Armenia will retain sovereignty and jurisdiction over it.
Pashinyan called it a historic day. Trump said the United States would sign cooperation agreements with both countries in energy, technology and trade.
