Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Russian President Vladimir Putin have signed a statement on a complete ceasefire and the cessation of all hostilities in the Karabakh conflict zone from midnight on 10 November.

The document provides for the deployment of a Russian peacekeeping contingent of 1,960 troops along the line of contact and the Lachin corridor. The Aghdam, Kalbajar and Lachin districts pass under Azerbaijani control, except for a five-kilometre-wide corridor linking Karabakh with Armenia.

Pashinyan called his decision "unspeakably painful" and said he took it based on an assessment of the military situation. Overnight protesters gathered at the government and parliament buildings in Yerevan, and some of them broke into the buildings.

Opposition parties are demanding the prime minister's resignation. According to the sides, thousands of soldiers and civilians were killed during the 44 days of fighting.
