Colombia has been hit by one of its strongest earthquakes in years. At least 132 people were killed, and the authorities declared a state of emergency. People may still be trapped under rubble.

According to the country's geological service, the magnitude 7.4 tremor struck at a depth of 103 km in the department of Chocó. It was felt across a huge area in the west of the country.

Most of the victims are in the city of Pereira in Colombia's coffee region. Neighbouring cities and the department of Valle del Cauca were also badly affected.

Rescue services are continuing to search for survivors.
