The office of Armenia's prime minister and the administration of Azerbaijan's president have published a joint statement. The sides said there is a "historic chance" to achieve peace in the region.

As a goodwill gesture Azerbaijan will release 32 Armenian servicemen and Armenia two Azerbaijani servicemen.

Armenia also withdrew its candidacy to host the UN climate conference COP29 and supported Azerbaijan's bid. Baku in turn supported Armenia's candidacy for the Eastern European Group's seat in the COP Bureau.

The sides agreed to continue negotiations on a peace treaty. The statement was welcomed by the EU, the US and Russia.
