The venues are needed for the 2029 U-20 World Cup
The Armenian government has decided to build UEFA-standard stadiums in Vanadzor and Ijevan, each with a capacity of more than 10,000 spectators, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Zhanna Andreasyan said.
The projects are linked to the 2029 FIFA U-20 World Cup, which Armenia will co-host with Georgia. The tournament will feature 24 teams and 52 matches, about half of them in Yerevan, Ijevan and Vanadzor.
The stadiums must meet UEFA Category 4 standards and be ready at least six months before the tournament.
Construction and renovation will take about 24 months.
