The politician's allies suspect poisoning
Russian opposition politician Alexei Navalny has been hospitalised in Omsk in a serious condition. He fell ill on board a flight from Tomsk to Moscow, and the plane made an emergency landing.
His spokeswoman Kira Yarmysh said Navalny had apparently been poisoned: in the morning at the airport he drank only tea. He is now in intensive care on a ventilator.
Doctors at the Omsk hospital have not yet given a diagnosis. The politician's allies are seeking to have him transferred to Germany for treatment.
The Kremlin wished Navalny a speedy recovery and said it would help if necessary. European governments called for a transparent investigation.
