Poland has deployed additional forces to the border with Russia's Kaliningrad region to conduct a large-scale anti-sabotage operation. This was reported on the air of the RMF FM radio station by the Chief Commander of the Polish Police, Marek Boroń, as reported by NEWS.am. The reason for the preventive actions was warnings received at the end of October from military intelligence and allied special services about possible provocations by Moscow, including attempts at armed infiltration.

The measures cover the Warmian-Masurian and Podlaskie Voivodeships. The operation is being carried out by police units with the support of ground forces, border guards, and intelligence services. Counter-terrorism units have been sent to the border zone, and a special coordination center has been deployed at the National Police Headquarters for overall management of the processes.

This is directly related to the sabotage taking place in our country, as well as to the hybrid criminal activities of Eastern special services. We are obliged to protect the residents of the border areas and the facilities located there from any potential threats.

At the same time, Polish authorities are strengthening their permanent military presence along the borders with the exclave. By the end of 2026, it is planned to fully form the Warmian-Masurian Territorial Defense Brigade, whose task is to protect the borders in the event of an invasion. Brigade Commander Cezary Kiszkowiak explained that the military will monitor the situation near the Suwałki Gap — a strategically important hundred-kilometer corridor for NATO that connects the Baltics with the rest of the bloc's members and separates Belarus from the Kaliningrad region. The process of staffing and re-equipping the units will take two years.

Neighboring countries in the region are also taking precautionary measures. Back in early October, Lithuania deployed a contingent to the border with the Kaliningrad region. Vilnius explained the deployment by the risk of an influx of hostile foreigners, pointing to an incident on the Latvian-Belarusian border, where a group of illegal immigrants tried to force the cordon accompanied by armed people.
