More than 800 people are missing in Nepal after a massive debris flood near the border with Tibet. The bodies of at least 165 people have been recovered. Rain and difficult terrain are hampering the rescue operation.

In Tibet at least 558 people are missing and three have died. It is not yet clear whether these figures overlap with Nepal's.

Hundreds of foreigners are missing on both sides of the border. According to Nepal, they include more than 100 tourists from India, 54 from the US and 33 from the UK.

The US Geological Survey believes the flood was triggered by a glacial collapse and the debris flow that followed.
