Navalny detained at airport immediately upon return to Russia
The politician arrived from Germany, where he received treatment following a poisoning
Alexei Navalny was detained at passport control at Moscow's Sheremetyevo Airport. The politician returned to Russia from Berlin, where he had been undergoing treatment after a poisoning in August 2020.
The plane carrying Navalny was diverted at the last moment from Vnukovo, where journalists and supporters were waiting for him. Police there detained several dozen people.
The Federal Penitentiary Service (FSIN) placed the politician on a wanted list for violating probation terms in the Yves Rocher case. A court is expected to rule on a pre-trial measure in the near future.
The European Union, the United States, and a number of European countries have demanded Navalny's immediate release.
