The Supreme Leader was killed in US-Israeli strikes
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei was killed in his office in US-Israeli air strikes, Iranian state television reported. Forty days of mourning have been declared in the country.
The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps threatened a "devastating offensive" in response, saying it would attack US bases and Israel.
Under Iran's Constitution, the successor to the Supreme Leader must be chosen by the Assembly of Experts. Until then his powers are temporarily exercised by the president, the head of the judiciary and a member of the Guardian Council.
Armenia, which borders Iran, is closely following developments.
