The law lets the state appoint a manager of the company
Armenia's National Assembly has adopted amendments to the laws on energy and on the Public Services Regulatory Commission allowing the state to introduce temporary management in an electricity distribution company.
The amendments target Electric Networks of Armenia (ENA), which belongs to structures of the detained businessman Samvel Karapetyan. The government says the measures are needed to ensure a reliable electricity supply.
Representatives of the company called the law an unlawful expropriation and said they intend to go to international arbitration.
ENA is the monopoly supplier of electricity to end consumers throughout Armenia.
