Only the piers of the medieval Silk Road bridge survive
Turkey has completed the tender to rebuild the historic Ani Bridge on the Armenia-Turkey border. The contract was signed on 28 September, Transport and Infrastructure Minister Abdulkadir Uraloğlu said.
Only the remains of the piers of the 10th-century bridge, part of the Silk Road, have survived. The reconstruction will be overseen by a joint Armenian-Turkish commission.
"With the reconstruction of the historic bridge, we aim to preserve one of the important cultural heritages of the Silk Road and pass it on to future generations," Uraloğlu said.
The project has become one of the most visible practical steps in the normalisation of relations between Armenia and Turkey.
