110 years since the Armenian Genocide: hundreds of thousands at Tsitsernakaberd
Commemorations held in Armenian communities around the world
Armenia and Armenian communities around the world have honoured the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. It is 110 years since the start of the mass deportations and killings of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire.
From early morning people with flowers walked to the Tsitsernakaberd memorial complex in Yerevan. The country's leadership, headed by President Vahagn Khachaturyan and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, laid wreaths at the eternal flame.
The evening before, the traditional torchlight procession took place in central Yerevan. Commemorative events and marches were held in Los Angeles, Paris, Beirut, Moscow, Buenos Aires and other cities.
The Armenian Genocide has been recognised by more than 30 states, including the United States, France, Germany and Russia.
