Israeli police have detained four people in Jerusalem on suspicion of spitting towards the Armenian Cathedral of St James in the Old City, The Jerusalem Post reports.

In total seven people were detained over the weekend for disrespectful acts towards religious sites: three more are suspected of desecrating Muslim graves.

In early August six suspects were detained who, according to police, threw stones at the Armenian cathedral and spat towards it.

The Cathedral of St James is the main church of the Armenian Patriarchate of Jerusalem and the centre of the Armenian Quarter of the Old City.
