More than 100,000 people have left Karabakh for Armenia
The government is housing refugees and providing payments
According to the Armenian government, the number of people forcibly displaced from Nagorno-Karabakh has exceeded 100,000. That is practically the entire Armenian population of the region before Azerbaijan's September operation.
Refugees are entering Armenia through the checkpoint near Kornidzor in Syunik Province. Border guards record queues of cars many kilometres long, and the journey from Stepanakert to Goris takes more than a day.
The government has set up registration points in Goris, where people are provided with temporary housing, food and medical care. Each displaced person will receive a one-off payment of 100,000 drams.
On 28 September Samvel Shahramanyan signed a decree dissolving all state institutions of the Nagorno-Karabakh Republic from 1 January 2024.
