Nancy Pelosi arrives in Yerevan

Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi has arrived in Armenia. It is the visit of the highest-ranking American official to the republic since it gained independence.

In Yerevan Pelosi met Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Speaker of Parliament Alen Simonyan, and visited the Tsitsernakaberd Armenian Genocide memorial.

At a press conference Pelosi said the attack had been initiated by Azerbaijan and stressed that the United States supports Armenia's sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Pelosi was accompanied by members of Congress, including Jackie Speier, who has Armenian roots. Azerbaijan protested over the statements of the American delegation.
