It is the second leopard recorded in the area since 2025
Camera traps in the Gndasar community conserved area near the village of Zangakatun recorded a new Persian leopard on 9 and 13 October, WWF-Armenia reports. It is the second leopard seen here since 2025.
The animal has been named Aghasi after the area's caretaker, whose cameras captured it. Aghasi has been involved in protecting the reserve since it was established in 2018.
WWF says the result is further evidence of the effectiveness of community-based nature conservation.
The reserve was created under the Ecoregional Corridor Fund for the Caucasus with the support of Armenia's Ministry of Environment and Germany's Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation through the KfW bank.
