UNESCO headquarters in Paris has hosted events marking the 150th anniversary of Armenian linguist Hrachia Acharian and the centenary of the start of construction of Republic Square in Yerevan. Both dates are included in UNESCO's 2026–2027 calendar of anniversaries.

The events also mark the 35th anniversary of Armenia's independence. The programme included the opening of a photo exhibition, The Square and Time: From Past to Future.

Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport Tigran Virabyan highlighted the architectural and cultural significance of the square designed by Alexander Tamanyan.

Hrachia Acharian is the author of the fundamental Armenian Etymological Root Dictionary and one of the founders of Armenian linguistics.
