The most serious clashes since the 2020 war have broken out on the Armenia-Azerbaijan border. Armenia's Defence Ministry reported deaths and said some servicemen had been taken prisoner.

Security Council Secretary Armen Grigoryan said Armenia had asked Russia to protect its territorial integrity under the 1997 Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance.

In the evening, with the mediation of Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu, the sides agreed to a ceasefire.

Baku claims the Armenian side provoked the clashes. Yerevan rejects the accusations.
