Mary Vardanyan, one of the last known survivors of the Armenian Genocide, has died at the age of 112. Her granddaughter Natalie Vardanyan announced her death.

Mary Vardanyan was born in Aintab in Cilicia. Her earliest childhood memories were of the horrors of the genocide. Together with surviving relatives, she found refuge in Aleppo.

She preserved Aintab's traditions of carpet weaving and handicrafts. Her works were exhibited at the museum of the Catholicosate of the Great House of Cilicia in Antelias.

In 1935 Mary married violinist and composer Hovhannes Vardanyan, also a native of Aintab. The couple had six children.
